Where You Can Find Us

Our office is located in downtown Richmond at 127 South Third Street. The building was built in 1931 and originally served as a bus station for seven bus lines, including Greyhound and Black Brothers. Completely renovated in 2008, this building was the recipient of the Richmond Chamber of Commerce’s Bernease Walters Beautification Award.

Our Commitment To Our Community

The practice began in 1929 and has a long tradition of serving clients.

The firm’s founder, James J. Shannon, practiced law from 1929 to 1976 during which time he assisted many in keeping their farms during the great depression. Several families he served honored him by naming their children with the first name of “Shannon.” Mr. Shannon served Madison County as a legislator in the Kentucky House of Representatives, as a director of the First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Richmond and as an attorney.

James J. Shannon Jr. (Of Counsel) and Walter G. Ecton Jr. continued this tradition of law practice and service. Jim has served as an Assistant Attorney General, longtime Chairman of the Richmond Board of Zoning Adjustment, longtime Treasurer of the Telford YMCA, longtime President of the Madison County Historical Society, long-standing member of the Kentucky Heritage Commission and 1986 “Madison County Citizen of the Year.”

Walt represents the Richmond Industrial Development Corporation and represented First Federal Savings and Loan, and The Richmond City School Board until its merger with the Madison County School System.

He has served as an assistant Commonwealth attorney for the 25th Judicial District, President of the Richmond Chamber of Commerce, President of the Richmond Rotary Club, Commissioner of the Richmond Tourism Commission, Chairman of the Richmond Cancer Crusade, Founding Director of Pops at the Park, Inc. and a State and Local Director for Parents Anonymous, Inc. and presently serves as a Director for the local YMCA.
